Online film festivals are film festivals that are held entirely online. Usually, films are shown for a certain amount of time, and viewers can vote on the films they have watched. Some online festivals are free, and some are not. The world's first major documentary film festival held online for films from over 110 countries was organized and hosted online by (Culture Unplugged Studios ) with technology partners Akamai and Amazon in 2007.
The rapid pace of technological advancement had a huge effect on film festivals moving them into the online space. Many new filmmakers are starting to produce and edit their films on computers rather than on celluloid. And many film lovers are looking to the Internet for the latest independent releases. Film festivals continue to be an important outlet for filmmakers who want to showcase their works and seek audiences and investors. Many of the major film festivals understand that an online component is going to become an important part of future festivals—and future films in general
